Mistake makes meaning: The future of generative AI

What makes a good AI artwork?
Maybe I should ask: what makes a high-quality AI image? Is it photorealism? The ability to execute a prompt with perfect accuracy? At some point, I grew tired of these criteria.
As generative AI became increasingly capable, its outputs also became increasingly homogeneous. The same aesthetics, compositions, and visual languages were repeatedly rewarded as “good.” I began to wonder: Are we judging beauty, or are we gradually learning to prefer the beauty that AI keeps presenting to us?
My practice begins with this question. Drawing on Umberto Eco’s idea of the “open work,” I approach AI as a material whose errors, accidents, and imperfections leave space for interpretation. Rather than pursuing a single ideal of algorithmic beauty, I explore how these unpredictable moments might open up alternative aesthetic possibilities.

How?
I built a new workflow for the project using ComfyUI and Stable Diffusion. The Morph pipeline integrates IPAdapter Plus (V2), ControlNet QRCode, and AnimateLCM to generate seamless dynamic morphing videos.
IPAdapter Plus provides image-to-image prompting with prepared reference images, while ControlNet QRCode introduces visual complexity into the animation and AnimateLCM accelerates rendering.
